Fabaceae - Lecointea (1.13×; 33.18 × 18.22)

Machaerium Pers. Usually lianas, rarely shrubs and trees; some species with spines developed from modified stipules. Leaves compound, imparipinnate with five to more than 50 alternate leaflets. Plants usually with red sap. Infructescence terminal or axillary. Fruit a samara to 10 cm long, the wing curved or straight, venation reticulate, sometimes with protuberances on the seed end, brown when mature, subtended by persistent calyx. Seeds one per fruit. Pubescence brown or white, very dense throughout the plant except on the adaxial laminar surface. Distribution: Tropical America to 1500 m elevation.
